Our Approach: A Therapeutic Day School Model

Supporting the Whole Student

At Spire, students are understood as whole people; not defined by a single behavior, diagnosis, or concern. Many students come to us with overlapping academic, social, emotional, and developmental needs, ranging from anxiety and school avoidance to executive functioning, learning differences, family stress, or social communication challenges. Through our therapeutic day school model in Stamford, CT, we look beyond surface-level concerns to understand how each student learns, communicates, builds relationships, and engages with school so we can shape support around their full profile.

Coordinated Care for Student Success

At Spire, students are supported by a coordinated care team that works together to understand their strengths, needs, and goals. Our interdisciplinary team includes teachers, licensed clinicians, and clinical leaders who collaborate throughout the school day to align academic expectations, therapeutic support, IEP goals, and future planning. With expanded clinical expertise, Spire provides consistent, integrated care that helps students strengthen self-awareness, independence, and readiness for what comes next.

Helping Students Reconnect with School

For students experiencing school avoidance, Spire takes an individualized approach to re-engagement, meeting each student where they are and providing coordinated support to gradually rebuild confidence, connection, and engagement with school.

Building Confidence for Life Beyond Spire

Spire helps students connect academic, therapeutic, and personal growth to real-world skills, interests, and future goals.

Students build confidence through hands-on, future-focused experiences that connect learning to real life, including:

  • Hands-on learning through Maker Space, science, arts, music, and creative electives
  • Student clubs, leadership and mentorship opportunities, and enrichment experiences that support connection and belonging
  • Postsecondary planning beginning in 9th grade
  • Senior Internship and Senior Symposium, where students present and reflect on their real-world internship experiences

These experiences help students see how their growth at Spire can carry into college, career, and everyday life.
